(Ellie Weingardt "glamming it up" as Joan Rivers)
A red carpet party was hosted by Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation(JDRF) Illinois Young Leadership Committee. This was the second time in a row I had been invited to be Joan Rivers Oscar Night for this young dedicated group of volunteers who made this fabulous evening. First, I greeted everyone, mic in hand on the "red carpet" as they entered. I made some new friends and reacquainting myself, as Joan, with the old. "Who are you wearing?" was the phrase of the night. As guests watched the Oscars on a bank of televisions, they filled out a questionaire on who they thought would be the Oscar winners. A DJ played during commercial breaks, and the venue was the Municipal Bar where delicious food was served "by the bite." They also had cocktails named after movies which added another fun dimension to the night. I got to chose the "best dressed" of the evening. Both male and female categories and prizes were handed out. There was a large display of auction items which were open for bid and all the proceeds went to help find a cure for Juvenile Diabetes.
