A Peek At Oscar Chic

Klieg lights in Chicago aren't likely to dazzle movie stars on Oscar night. But at the Gene Siskel Film Center, guests still took the opportunity to go a little glam for their walk across the red carpet before watching the ceremony on a big screen.

About 250 people attended the benefit, which was co-hosted by the Film Center and the Chicago Academy for the Arts and was one of 28 official Oscar parties nationally.

As people began to arrive, Joan Rivers, a.k.a. Ellie Weingardt, dressed in a red Escada gown, predicted that guests would come "in a mixture of things . . . this is an arty crowd. You might see anything from bobby socks and sneakers to studded toe shoes to Billy Bob looks. And lots of cleavage."

With the glitz factor in L.A. turned down several notches, and suggested attire at the Chicago party as "business casual or Oscar chic," you could forgive a guest for being a little clothes confused.
